Transform Your Triggers into Intimacy

Underneath every version of disconnection we see in couples:
whether it's distance, resentment
or the same fight on repeat
there's *one* mechanism running the show:

It's the moment something in you reacts
before you've had a chance to think.

A look, a tone, a silence,
and suddenly you're not responding in a way that's mature, wise or relational.

Something else takes over, and it ain't pretty.
That's a trigger.

Triggered: Why we react

& what to do about it

TRIGGER SNAP.png

When triggers run our relationship,

we think there's something wrong with us

or our relationship.

But it's our brain doing exactly what it was built to do:
scanning for in-the-moment danger, based on data from the past.

Sometimes it's the people we love the most that trigger us the most (Spouse and Kids),
and sometimes it's people we've never been close to, but seem to just hit a nerve we can't turn off.

Either way, the trigger is doing the same thing:
protecting an old wound the relationship in front of us didn't actually cause.

So mastering this one thing:
recognising it, understanding it, knowing what to actually do in the moment it happens;

doesn't just remove a problem,

it becomes THE fastest path to real trust, intimacy, and connection there is.

Sometimes the truth hurts.
But trying to protect yourself & your partner by always avoiding upset is not the answer.

The truth is: every unresolved conflict teaches your nervous systems that it's safer to disconnect and distance than it is to repair.

Over time, that starts to feel normal. Conversations get shorter. Affection drops. Irritation rises. And the two of you drift further from the connection you actually want.

In this episode, you'll discover:

  • A real, unfiltered story of a trigger we moved through ourselves as a couple — including what set each of us off, and exactly what we did to repair, fast

  • What the “adaptive child” actually is — not a flaw to fix, but a survival strategy you built as a child that becomes maladaptive in adult relationship

  • Why your specific triggers make complete sense — rooted in real brain science, not something broken in you

  • The difference between healthy space and avoidance — and why one helps you repair, while the other just delays the same fight

  • Why the fight almost never is about what it looks like it's about

  • What opens up when we shift from defending our own pain to becoming genuinely curious about our partner's experience.

Plus: a first look at what's ahead in our Triggers Mini-Series — the six patterns most people get stuck in when triggered, and the exact repair process we use ourselves.

This Podcast is for You if you:

✅  Are in a relationship and want to work with your partner to break a cycle you both keep falling into

✅ Are single and want to understand your own patterns before you carry them into your next relationship

✅ Are tired of “communicate better” advice that doesn't hold up the moment either of you is actually triggered

✅ Want to feel like a team with your partner again, instead of like you're on opposing sides
